Korean Wave Hallyu fashion and drama

Korean Wave (Hallyu = ?? = 韩流 ’Han Liu’ in Chinese) actually is a fever of Korean Culture and products related to fashion, performance, drama, song, cuisine, and lifestyle. Starting in Japan, China and Vietnam, the Korean Wave is now spreading throughout the whole world.

Recently, Hallyu, the Korean Wave of popular culture, has gushed onto the world’s shores as soap operas, film, pop bands, celebrities, and the B-Boy phenomenon experience increasing popularity abroad. While pop singers and troupes of B-Boys perform all over the world, exporting their talents, throngs of tourists converge on Seoul to get up close and personal with the places that feature in their favorite dramas. Korean dramas have gained significant followings all over the world, from England to El Salvador, Canada to Chile.

Now we can see Korean things anywhere over the world. Korean Restaurants with its main food menu Kimchi can be found in most big cities everywhere. Winter Sonata aired in 2002 may be the first and most popular Korean TV drama that made the korea fashion, musics, and actors have also become very desirable in Asia.

In New York, Korean restaurants have been popping up everywhere in the trendy downtown areas such as the East and West Villages, Soho, and even the Upper East Side.

Chuncheon in Gangwon Province was once crowded with foreign tourists as the local drama ``Winter Sonata'' (2002) gained popularity abroad. The house at which leading actor Bae Yong-joon stayed in the drama is no longer crowded with fans of the drama. In 2003, 139,000 foreigners visited the city and the number reached 390,000 two years later. Last year, 230,000 people visited.

A tsunami of Korean TV series such as "Autumn Fairy Tale," "Joyful Girl," "My Love, Patsi," and "Jewel in the Palace" followed its success. "Jewel in the Palace" which showcased Korean food was as addictive as "Winter Sonata".

The popularity of Korean Drama continued with Boys Before Flowers, that made another Korea's fever. The drama 's wave again had rised the popularity of Korea Fashion, Korea tourism, and many of young generations in Asia are being hypnotized and imitating style of Lee Min-ho, Kim Hyun-Joong, Kim Bum, etc.

Hollywood Movie now also can not be seperated with Korean Actor. It is not a suprise if we see Daniel Henney in film X-Men, Lee Byung-Hun in GI Joe, or Rain Bi in Ninja Assassin.

The main attractions of Korean Wave actually is Korea Pop. Although not all communities understand with Korean Language, but nowadays who don't know TVXQ, Big Bang, SS501, Wonder Girls, F(x), 2PM, BoA, etc.

The musicians, which included Wheesung, f(x), 2PM, 2AM, U-Kiss, 4Minute and Jang Nara, were in China to perform in the Feel Korea K-POP Night and K-Fashion Show to promote tourism in Korea as part of the “2010-2012 Visit Korea Year”. It is a prove that Korea Wave has spreading very fast in China.

The Korean government hopes that the star power of pop singers and celebrities will help attract more Chinese tourists to Korea in the coming years. This event and more like it that showcase Korean pop music, fashion, tourism, drama and digital content are being organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the Korea Foundation for Cultural Exchange; the Korea Creative Content Agency; and the the Visit Korea Committee.

The rising of Korean Wave, no doubt, has increased the tourism in Korea. The success of South Korean dramas, movies, and music served as a major tourist magnet for South Korea in 2005, with tourists from countries such as Japan, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Kate Gosselin's New Hair Extensions

Congrats to our friend and favorite celebrity stylist Ted Gibson for his gorgeous makeover of Kate Gosselin. If anyone deserves a new look, it's the recently divorced mom of eight. Kate says of her new 'do in the new issue of People:

"I'm starting over. It's good to have hair again. I never thought I'd have short hair for as long as I did. I feel like this is a fresh start, a fresh me, a fresh life."

The extensions reportedly took 20 hours to complete. We think they took years off her look and can't wait to pick up the new issue on Friday to see more of the photos!

Want to visit Ted Gibson's salon yourself? Book an appointment on a Friday in January and receive 20 percent off on color or cut.

Resolutions...

As we know all too well, the coming of each year presents an opportunity to shed the vices of years past in favour of healthier, more productive choices. Like it or not, resolutions are everywhere, saturating conversations and notepads with aspirations of weight loss, career gains, travel, etc. Always a sucker for such proclamations of self-betterment, I ring in each and every year with a list that always seems to set me up for failure. Well this year I say no more. It's a new decade, and I have resolved to not make any resolutions that I can't- or won't- keep this year. Instead of trying to lose weight or get a better job, I think I will simply try to enjoy each day to the fullest, appreciating my loved ones and all my many blessings along the way. May 2010 find everyone happy, healthy, and free from the stresses of resolutions... Happy New Year!

Review: Redken Aerate 08

We've never met a volumizer we didn't like, so when the new Redken Aerate 08 landed on our doorstep, we ran straight to the shower to wash our hair and test it out. Redken describes the unique product as an aerated cream with cellulose to plump up hair.

The cream itself is superlight, the jar doesn't weigh more than an envelope, even when full. You can actually see air bubbles in the cream and when you scoop it out, it makes a fun popping sound a la Rice Krispies.

After blowing out our hair, it had MAJOR fullness that we've never achieved when styling on our own. The only downside, our hair was a little sticky as we used too much of the product. We've since refined the amount we use to about a quarter size dollop.

Our only other complaint about Aerate 08 is that the jar is short on directions, only saying to use on damp hair and blow dry. We apply it first to our roots, then work it through to the ends.

Our final verdict: Redken Aerate is a must have for any girl with fine, limp hair. It's a shortcut to serious fullness and volume.

A Peek Inside Christina Joy's Carry On Bag

We recently charmed New York City stylist, Christina Joy into showing us what's in her carry on bag. Christina is our go-to-gal for any and all style questions and she even talked JSG's Annie into wearing white at her recent wedding. Here's what she travels with:

Depending on the trip and its duration, I either carry a Hartmann bag or a Prada oversize carryall (shown). Both are made of ballistic nylon so they take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’. They’ve traveled with me everywhere from Berlin to St. Barths.

My beauty arsenal consists of travel sizes of my favorites. My must haves are La Mer moisturizing crème for my face and under eyes followed by T. LeClerc pressed powder to mattify. Toothpaste is an absolute must along with a Lancôme Juicy Tube for some glossy lip shine. Then I finish with some Ligne St. Barths Tiare body lotion and vials of my Jo Malone scent, Pomegranate Noir. It’s my formula for arriving fresh.

I never travel without my Donna Karan black cashmere cozy. It starts as a sweater and doubles as a wrap/blanket on the plane. There are more than 12 ways to wear it so it’s an invaluable piece for the girl on the go. I urge all my clients to add it to their collection because of its utility, simplicity, luxe feel and look.

I splurged on mine however, DKNY makes an affordable version as well.

My business revolves around not only pop culture but also the applied and fine arts. There’s so much to keep up with. I’m always digesting some bit of information. And I’m always behind on my stack of tear sheets from The New York Times and every magazine out there. That stack travels with me along with a notebook to jot down ideas.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate is my motto. I always pack H2O, an apple or clementine, a GNU chocolate brownie protein bar and a pack of gum.

I am addicted to my ipods. I cannot travel without one. I keep them stocked with my complete library though each holds varied playlists with different music for different moods, scenes and settings. Always playing are old school hip-hop like A Tribe Called Quest, The Notorious B.I.G and Brit punk and new wave like The Clash and New Order. Then I top it off with some Jamiroquai, MGMT, Phoenix and the one and only Grace Jones.

Anything else in my carry on? My Blackberry and charger, of course. I can temporarily run my business from my Blackberry so it’s a necessary companion. I’m also never without my Canon PowerShot SD900 digital camera.
